Hostages held by Abu Sayyaf in the Philippines make video plea

After the killing of Canadian John Ridsdel the Philippine military launched an offensive against Abu Sayyaf

Islamist militants in the Philippines have threatened to kill three more hostages if a ransom is not met, a week after they beheaded a Canadian man.

In the video, a Canadian, Norwegian and Filipino surrounded by six militants plead for the ransom demands to be met.

It was reported by SITE Intelligence Group which monitors jihadist media.

Four hostages were abducted while in Davao in the southern Philippines last September. Last week, one of them, Canadian John Ridsdel, was killed.

In a video released in the days before his killing, the militants demanded a ransom of 300 million pesos ($6.3m; £4.3m) to spare his life.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned the killing but said Canada would not give in to the kidnappers demands.

In the latest video, a masked militant warns Canada and the Philippines that the three remaining hostages would be killed "if you procrastinate once again".

Who are the Abu Sayyaf group?
